Prophet Muhammad's Last Sermon

This sermon was delivered: 632 A.C (Masehi), 9th day of Dhul al Hijjah, 10 A.H (Hijriah). in the 'Uranah valley of Mount Arafat, Mecca.

After praising, and thanking God, he said: "O People, listen well to my words, for I do not know whether, after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and TAKE THESE WORDS TO THOSE WHO COULD NOT BE PRESENT HERE TODAY.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Treat others justly so that no one would be unjust to you. Remember that you will indeed meet your LORD, and that HE will indeed reckon your deeds. God has forbidden you to take usury (riba), therefore all riba obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital , however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer inequity. God has judged that there shall be no riba and that all the riba due to `Abbas ibn `Abd al Muttalib shall henceforth be waived.

Every right arising out of homicide in pre-Islamic days is henceforth waived and the first such right that I waive is that arising from the murder of Rabi`ah ibn al Harith ibn `Abd al Muttalib.

O Men, the Unbelievers indulge in tampering with the calendar in order to make permissible that which God forbade, and to forbid that which God has made permissible. With God the months are twelve in number. Four of them are sacred, three of these are successive and one occurs singly between the months of Jumada and Sha`ban. Beware of the devil, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights over your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under God's trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Treat your women well and be kind to them, for they are your partners and committed helpers. It is your right and they do not make friends with anyone of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste...

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship God (The One Creator of the Universe), perform your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your financial obligation (zakah) of your wealth. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.

Remember, one day you will appear before God (The Creator) and you will answer for your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, NO PROPHET OR MESSENGER WILL COME AFTER ME AND NO NEW FAITH WILL BE BORN. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand words which I convey to you. I am leaving you with the Book of God (the QUR'AN) and my SUNNAH (the life style and the behavioral mode of the Prophet), if you follow them you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness O God, that I have conveyed your message to your people.

Different Recitations

Narrated 'Umar bin Al-Khattab: I heard Hisham bin Hakim reciting Surat-al-Furqan during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle, I listened to his recitation and noticed that he was reciting in a way that Allah's Apostle had not taught me. I was about to jump over him while He was still in prayer, but I waited patiently and when he finished his prayer, I put my sheet round his neck (and pulled him) and said, "Who has taught you this Sura which I have heard you reciting?" Hisham said, "Allah's Apostle taught it to me." I said, "You are telling a lie, for he taught it to me in a way different from the way you have recited it!" ..

Then I started leading (dragged) him to Allah's Apostle and said (to the Prophet), " I have heard this man reciting Surat-al-Furqan in a way that you have not taught me." The Prophet said: "(O 'Umar) release him! Recite, O Hisham." Hisham recited in the way I heard him reciting. Allah's Apostle said, "It was revealed like this." Then Allah's Apostle said, "Recite, O 'Umar!" I recited in the way he had taught me, whereupon he said, "It was revealed like this," and added, "The Quran has been revealed to be recited in seven different ways, so recite of it whichever is easy for you."

The Guest of Honor

On my twitter's bio, i wrote like this: " I'm nobody. nobody's perfect. am i perfect?? ;p "
It's written because i was inspired by this lovely story: The Guest of Honor (The Stories of Nasruddin Hoja).

Nasruddin entered a formal reception area and seated himself at the foremost elegant chair.
The Chief of the Guard approached and said, "Sir, those places are reserved for guests of honor"
"Oh, I am more than a mere guest", replied Nasruddin confidently.
"Oh, so you are a diplomat ?"
"Far more than that"
"Really? So you are a minister, perhaps?"
"No, bigger than that too"
"Oho! So you must be the King himself, Sir", said the Chief sarcastically.
"Higher than that"
"What?! Are you higher than the King?! Nobody is higher than the King in this village!"
"Now you have it. I am nobody!", said Nasruddin.

A Right On You

Narrated Abu Juhaifa:
The Prophet made a bond of brotherhood between Salman and Abu Ad-Darda.' Salman paid a visit to Abu Ad-Darda' and found Um Ad-Darda' dressed in shabby clothes and asked her why she was in that state. She replied, "Your brother Abu Ad-Darda' is not interested in (the luxuries of) this world." In the meantime Abu Ad-Darda' came and prepared a meal for Salman. Salman requested Abu Ad-Darda' to eat (with him), but Abu Ad-Darda' said, "I am fasting." Salman said, "I am not going to eat unless you eat" ..

So, Abu Ad-Darda' ate(with Salman). When it was night and (a part of the night passed), Abu Ad-Darda' got up (to offer the night prayer), but Salman told him to sleep and Abu Ad-Darda' slept. After sometime Abu Ad-Darda' again got up but Salman told him to sleep. When it was the last hours of the night, Salman told him to get up then, and both of them offered the prayer. Salman told Abu Ad-Darda', "Your Lord has a right on you, your soul has a right on you, and your family has a right on you; so you should give the rights of all those who has a right on you."
Abu Ad-Darda' came to the Prophet and narrated the whole story. The Prophet said, "Salman has spoken the truth."

True Wealth

One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on trip to the country with the purpose of showing his son how the poor people live so he could be thankful for his wealth.
They spent a couple days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from the trip, the father asked his son,
"how was the trip?"
"It was great, Dad"
"Did you see how poor people can be?"
"Oh yeah"
"So what did you learn from the trip?"

The son answered, "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them".

With this answer the boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are"

Salam

Abdullah ibn Umar ibn Al-Khattab, the son of Umar ibn Al-Khattab (radiAllahu anhu) loved conveying salam (peace) to people.
He had seen the Beloved Prophet saying salam to eveybody, young and old, rich or poor. he said salam even to children playing in the way.
Abdullah loved the prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) very much, and loved to do exactly what the blessed Prophet did himself. So he also conveyed his salaams to everyone he met.

One day, Abdullah began going to the market everyday, around all the different bazaars, where other Muslims were selling different things. But even though Abdullah ibn Al-Khattab was going every day, he wasn’t buying anything. What was he doing, going to the market every day?
Abdullah was conveying his salaams! He greeted the shopkeepers, and the men in the street. He greeted people sitting down, and people standing. He greeted any person he met, high and low.

Someone noticed this too, and asked Abdullah why he would go to the market everyday, but not buy anything, “You come daily to the bazaar without fail, but you never buy, sell, or bargain anything. You don’t wander in and around in the shops, or idly chat with shopkeepers. Instead, you always pass by the bazaar and go away again, without stopping anywhere. Why do you do this? ”
“I come to the bazaar to offer salaam to the people!,” replied Abdullah, “Not for shopping.”

When you are greeted with a greeting, you greet with one better than it, or return it (QS 4: 86)
The riding person should greet the walking one, and the walking person should greet the sitting one, and the small group greets the bigger group, and the young greet the old (Sahih al-Bukhari)

The Triple Filter Test

One day an acquaintance met the great scholar and said, "Do you know what I just heard about your friend?"
"Hold on a minute," the scholar replied. "Before telling me anything I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test."
"Triple filter?"
"That's right," the scholar continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say.
That's why I call it the triple filter test.
The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"
"No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and.."
"All right," said the scholar. "So you don't really know if it's true or not.
Now let's try the second filter, the filter of goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?"
"No, on the contrary..."
"So," the scholar continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, but you're not certain it's true. You may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left: the filter of usefulness.
Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?"
"No, not really."
"Well," concluded the scholar, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?"

Sipp deh!
Semoga kita termasuk golongan para penghuni surga. Amin.
